Easy Ways to Make Hand Sanitizer and Mask at Home to Fight COVID-19 Spread

Coronaviruses like COVID-19 are airborne and can spread through contacts. Health professional across the globe are asking people to keep washing their hands at regular intervals to avoid the disease as much as they can. But it is not always feasible.

While hand sanitizers are just as effective in preventing the virus and, stores are running out of those like never before. Amidst the skyrocketing demands, how about making them yourself at home.

We have come up with two ways that can be a great substitute till the real hand sanitizers are available at the store. 

Tips to Make Your Own DIY Hand Sanitizer 

Actually, we have come up with two ways of hand sanitizers at home. One is with things that are usually available in the kitchen. The second one is a little complex and with require you to head to your nearby supermarket.

However, in both cases, you will need some amount of alcohol. Normally the minimum alcohol content must be at least 60 percent, but a bottle of 99 percent isopropyl alcohol is – hands down – the best thing you can use.

Remember: Isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable and has the tendency to burn your bare skin if it comes in direct contact. Use nitrile gloves during the entire process 

The Gel Recipe

Things you will need:

  • Isopropyl alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol
  • Aloe vera gel
Aloe vera gel
  • Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil

How to make: 

  • Take three parts isopropyl alcohol and one part aloe vera gel. Mix them well.
  • To this mixture, add a few drops of tea tree oil. The pleasant smell will help you soothe your senses. 

The Spray Recipe 

Things you will need:

  • Isopropyl alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol bottel
  • Glycerol
  • Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide
  • Distilled water
Distilled water
  • Spray bottle
Spray bottle
  • Essential oil
Essential oil

How to make:

  • Take 1 ⅔ cups alcohol and  2 teaspoons glycerol. Mix them well. Glycerol will keep the alcohol from drying out quickly. If there is no glycerol around, simply moisture your hands before applying the homemade hand sanitizer.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup of distilled water and a splash of your favourite essential oil. Transfer the solution into a spray bottle and you are good to go. You can also use this as a wipe. Simply, wet paper towels with the spray.
